The short version

Any iPhone, iPad, Mac or Vision Pro app can now be wired into Siri AI, Apple’s LLM-based assistant, through App Intents. The Developer Preview arrived on November 3, 2026 with the 27.3 betas. Integrations reach users in a few months, and App Store submission opens in the spring. For teams running iOS app development, the work now is choosing which actions to expose and modelling them cleanly.

What did Apple open up for developers?

In a note titled “Siri AI is now open to all developers,” Apple said the new Developer Preview enables any developer to integrate their app with Siri AI. Until now, the redesigned assistant that Apple introduced at WWDC in June mostly worked with Apple’s own apps and a fixed set of schemas. With the preview, an app can hand Siri its own custom actions, such as checking a delivery, booking a table or placing an order, and Siri can use personal context, what is on screen and plain-language requests to decide when to call them.

Apple has already wired the same capabilities into Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather, which gives third-party teams working reference behaviour to test against. Bloomberg reported the same day that the first iOS 27.3 developer beta also brings AI listening tools for Apple Watch and a redesigned Health app, with the public 27.3 release planned for December.

How do App Intents and the new skills work?

App Intents is the Swift framework apps use to describe what they can do and what content they hold. In the preview, that description becomes the contract Siri AI works with: the developer decides which entities Siri may retrieve and which actions it may perform. Apple also extended Spotlight semantic index support so an app can surface any entity it indexes, not only entities that fit one of Apple’s predefined schemas.

Skills are the bigger change for product design. A skill teaches Siri how to combine several actions into a single experience, so one spoken request can find content in one app, pass it to another and finish a task. 9to5Mac’s example is a request to send a saved pair of sneakers to a partner, which touches a shopping app and a messaging app in one flow.

What it means for US & EU software teams

For product owners, Siri AI turns the assistant into a new entry point to an app, much like search or notifications. A user who asks Siri to rebook a delivery or reorder lunch may never open the app’s home screen. Apps that expose clear, well-named actions will get that traffic; apps that do not will be skipped in favour of competitors or Apple’s own apps. Retail, logistics, travel and fintech products with frequent, repeatable tasks have the most to gain.

The engineering cost sits in the domain model rather than in the UI. Each action needs explicit parameters, sensible defaults, confirmation for anything that spends money or deletes data, and stable entity identifiers that Siri and Spotlight can reference. Teams that already use App Intents for Shortcuts or widgets have a head start; apps built on older SiriKit intents or on cross-platform stacks will need native Swift work for this layer.

EU-focused products should plan carefully. Apple says Siri AI is not yet available in the EU on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, so European users will not see these integrations at launch, while US users will. Building the integration once and shipping it when the EU path is settled is the sensible order. Whatever data an action shares with Siri still falls under GDPR, so the choice of which entities to expose belongs in the privacy review, not only in the backlog. Apple also notes daily usage limits on server-side Apple Intelligence features, with paid expanded access planned, which product teams should factor into any flow that depends on Siri.

What should mobile teams do before spring?

  1. Pick the top three tasks. Use analytics to find the most frequent repeat actions users take in the app and start there.
  2. Model actions as App Intents. Define parameters, defaults, confirmations and error messages that read well when spoken.
  3. Index your entities. Expose orders, bookings, documents or products to Spotlight with stable identifiers so Siri can find them.
  4. Design one skill. Map a multi-step flow, such as find, share and confirm, and test it on the 27.3 betas with Xcode 27.3.
  5. Review privacy and markets. Decide which data Siri may read, document it for GDPR, and plan a staged rollout given the EU limitation.

Frequently asked questions

What did Apple announce for developers on November 3, 2026?

Apple released a Siri AI Developer Preview with the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas. It lets any developer bring their app's content and actions into Siri AI through the App Intents framework, and adds skills that teach Siri AI to combine several actions into one experience.

When can apps with Siri AI integrations ship on the App Store?

Apple says App Store submission for these integrations opens in the spring, and that the capabilities first reach customers in a few months. Until then, teams can build and test the integration on beta software with Xcode 27.3.

Which framework do developers use to integrate with Siri AI?

App Intents. Apps describe the actions they can perform and the content they hold, and Siri AI uses personal context, onscreen awareness and natural language to call them. Apple also extended Spotlight semantic index support so apps can surface any entity, not only entities that match an existing schema.

Is Siri AI available to users in the European Union?

Not yet on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Apple's announcement says Siri AI is currently unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS and that it is working with the European Union on a path forward. It is also not available to users under 13 and requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language.
