Upload a PDF

A PDF with a text layer, up to 30 MB and 200 pages. Result: a Word document (.docx).

Drop a PDF here or click PDF · up to 30 MB · up to 200 pages

Your file never leaves your browser. Conversion runs on your device; check it in the Network tab (F12).

How it works

  1. Choose a PDF

Drop the file into the box or click it. Contracts, proposals, articles and reports work best.

  2. Click Convert

Your browser parses the pages and finds headings, paragraphs, lists and tables.

  3. Download the DOCX

Open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and edit as usual.

What is preserved and what is not

Preserved

  • Text and paragraphs, hyphenated words are rejoined
  • Three heading levels with Word styles
  • Bold and italic, fonts and sizes
  • Bulleted and numbered lists
  • Tables, including merged cells
  • Hyperlinks and images
  • Headers and footers with page numbers
  • Two-column text in reading order

Not transferred

  • Scans without a text layer (OCR is coming in the next update)
  • The exact position of blocks on the page: text flows as one stream
  • Vector diagrams and charts
  • Text over images and rotated text
  • Fillable forms
  • CJK scripts and right-to-left writing

Check that your file goes nowhere

  1. Open the developer tools: F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I (on a Mac Cmd+Option+I).
  2. Go to the Network tab and clear the list.
  3. Choose a PDF and click Convert.
  4. The list will show only the converter's own files from our site (scripts and fonts for reading PDF) and anonymous analytics events such as “conversion finished”, with no file name or content. There are no requests sending your document.

Only the converter code is downloaded from our server. The document itself is processed on your device.

FAQ

Is it safe to convert documents here?
The file is never uploaded. The converter runs in your browser: the PDF is read into the tab's memory, parsed and turned into a DOCX on your computer. You can check it: open the developer tools (F12), go to the Network tab and run a conversion. There will be no requests carrying your document.
Will the formatting be preserved?
Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic, lists, tables, links, images, headers and footers are preserved. The exact position of blocks on the page is not reproduced: text flows as one stream so it is easy to edit. Vector diagrams are not transferred.
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
Not yet. A scan has no text, only images of pages, and needs recognition (OCR). The converter will tell you honestly that the file is a scan. OCR is coming in the next update.
What if the PDF is password-protected?
The converter will ask for the password. It is used only to open the file in this tab and is never sent anywhere.
What are the limits?
Up to 30 MB and 200 pages per file. Split larger documents into parts. On phones, heavy PDFs may take longer because of device memory.
How much does it cost?
It is free and needs no sign-up. There is no limit on the number of conversions: all the work happens on your device.
