How we built these numbers

The rate is what an external vendor bills a Western client for one dedicated engineer per hour, excluding VAT. It is not a salary, not a freelancer rate and not a YuSMP price list.

The anchor is our regional corridor for a senior engineer: Eastern Europe $45–75, Latin America $50–90, Asia $35–65, Western Europe $85–140, the US $120–180. The same corridor feeds Team vs Outsource and Quote Review, so the tools agree with each other.

Published industry reports give regional bands, not country figures. Country rows are modelled: each country sits inside its regional corridor at a position we set for version 1, and these rows are labelled “modelled” with low confidence until an analyst signs them off against official salary statistics.

Role and seniority multipliers are the same for every country (for example, QA ×0.75, lead ×1.15). Monthly seat = hourly rate × 160 hours. Time-zone overlap uses a 9:00–18:00 working day in standard time; daylight saving time can shift it by ±1 hour.

The shortlist scores each country from 0 to 1 on price, overlapping hours, EU/GDPR status, English and IP protection, then adds them up with your weights. The two priorities you pick count double. Missing data scores 0.5 and is labelled.

What a rate does not include

Recruiting and onboarding time, your own management time, travel, contract and legal work, currency risk, VAT and the cost of rework. To compare full costs, use Team vs Outsource.

FAQ

How much does a software developer cost per hour by country?

A senior engineer from an external vendor typically bills $45–75 per hour in Eastern Europe, $50–90 in Latin America, $35–65 in Asia, $85–140 in Western Europe and $120–180 in the US. Junior and mid-level engineers cost less, leads more. This is a vendor rate, not a salary.

Why are some countries “modelled”?

Industry reports publish regional bands, not country figures. We place each country inside its regional corridor and label the row “modelled” with its confidence, until an analyst checks it against official salary statistics.

Are these YuSMP rates?

No. YuSMP does not publish fixed hourly rates. YuSMP is a vendor and delivers from Armenia; Armenia appears in the table like any other country, with market figures from the listed sources.

What is the difference between rate and total cost?

The rate is the vendor’s invoice per hour. Total cost adds your management time, onboarding, hiring delays, legal work and rework. Team vs Outsource compares the full cost of in-house, staff augmentation and a fixed-price project.

Which country is cheapest, and is cheapest best?

Asia usually has the lowest sticker rate, but also the smallest overlap with US and EU working hours. There is no single best country: the shortlist ranks destinations by the priorities you set.

How current are the numbers?

Every figure carries its source and access date, and the data set shows when it was last verified. We plan a quarterly update; if the figures are older than 120 days, the page says so.

Why does time-zone overlap matter, and how do you calculate it?

Overlap is the number of shared working hours for stand-ups, reviews and quick questions. We compare two 9:00–18:00 working days in standard time; daylight saving time can shift the result by one hour.

Can YuSMP give me a quote with named engineers?

Yes. Send the team you priced and we reply with named engineers, a rate per person and a start date. NDA on request.
